Dental Implants

Dental implants are an excellent option to consider if you have missing teeth. We can replace a single tooth, multiple teeth, or an entire arch of missing teeth with implants. Stop hiding your smile and go back to eating your favorite foods with a tooth replacement that looks, functions, and feels like the real thing!

Our goal at Desert Foothills Dental is to help you explore your tooth replacement options and help you choose the one most suitable for your needs. You have several, but dental implants are preferred because they are the closest thing to a natural tooth. Implants are also the only tooth replacement that has the potential to last a lifetime.

What Is a Dental Implant?

A dental implant is an artificial tooth root made of titanium. Your dentist places it surgically in your jawbone, and bone and tissue grow around over several months. This natural healing process is called osseointegration and takes 3–8 months to complete.

After it heals, the implant functions like the original tooth root. It provides stable support for a tooth restoration—crown, bridge, or denture—so you can use the tooth to chew comfortably. Your restoration is custom-designed to match the shape, size, and shade of surrounding teeth and blend naturally into your smile.

What’s Involved with Getting an Implant?

If you choose a dental implant, you couldn’t be in better hands than at Desert Foothills Dental! Dr. Adam Singh has over 20 years of experience and completed an American Academy of Implant Dentistry Maxi Course to bring a full range of implant services to his patients.

Are You a Good Implant Candidate?

Dr. Singh takes digital x-rays and advanced 3-D cone beam images to determine if you are a good candidate. The purpose is to help him evaluate the health and quality of the jawbone in the area where we plan to place the implant.

The next step is to schedule implant surgery, where Dr. Singh places the implant in your jaw. This process takes a little over an hour and is performed at Phoenix dental office under local anesthesia.

Bone Grafting to Get an Implant Later

In some cases, especially where tooth loss is not recent, the bone in the area may have shrunk enough that placing an implant in those conditions is impossible. However, all is not lost because Dr. Singh also provides bone grafting.

This procedure involves supplementing the bone in your jaw with donor bone or bone from another part of your body. This process takes several months, but after the graft heals, you can get your implant.

What Are Dental Implant Benefits?

Dental implants are popular because they offer numerous benefits:

Slow Bone Loss

The artificial tooth root sets implants apart from any other tooth replacement because it stimulates the tissue around it to regenerate healthy bone.

The process stops when you lose a tooth, and bone starts to resorb or shrink. Bone loss happens fairly rapidly, and it’s estimated that in the first 12 months, about 25 percent of bone is lost. Surrounding teeth lose the support of the missing tooth to keep them stable and are also impacted by bone loss that loosens them.

Replacing a missing tooth with a dental implant stops further bone loss, and the artificial root also helps stabilize surrounding teeth.

Restore Comfortable Chewing

All your teeth work together, so losing even one can lead to discomfort when chewing certain foods. If you have multiple or full tooth loss, we can place several implants that support a full or partial denture.

Compared to removable dentures, dental implants significantly restore your ability to chew again comfortably. Dental implants restore about 90 percent of chewing ability, while dentures restore only about 10 percent.

Create a Fuller Facial Appearance

If you have seen someone who has lost all their teeth, you know their cheeks look sunken and hollow, and their lips cave in without teeth to support them; this is due to tooth loss and jawbone loss.

Replacing one or more teeth with a dental implant or denture fills out facial features and prevents further bone loss.
