At Desert Foothills Dental, we love to answer all patient questions. One of the topics we normally get asked about is mouthwash. Because Dr. Brent D Pulley knows that lots of our patients browse this website as a source of dental information, we’ve accumulated answers to some of these frequently-asked queries about mouthwash.

Do I really need to use mouthwash every day?
Put simply, if you’re brushing two times daily and flossing once daily, you will probably be safe without using mouthwash. That said, mouthwash can be a good addition to your oral healthcare routine if you’re less than perfect with your other dental habits.

What does mouthwash do for me?
Mouthwash is utilized to flush away plaque and bacteria on your pearly whites and food particles between your gums. Swishing the mouthwash in your oral cavity agitates stockpiled food debris and leaves your pearly whites cleaner, helping in the battle against gum disease and tooth breakdown. (These are functions that brushing also serves, and it does so extra effectively.)

Which mouthwash should I use?
Look for an antibacterial mouthwash with the ADA seal. If you have sensitive gums or periodontal disease, talk to us about getting a prescription mouthwash.
